Mark My Words: Top 30 Health Tweeple

  • Carlos Rizo · 1 year ago
    Mark,

Thank you for compiling the list and adding my name.

I opened my Twitter account last year but only found it's real value at the Medicine 2.0 conference in Toronto where it played a major role as an additional channel for communication and collaboration among participants. Many friends and colleagues are now standing behind the fence thinking how they could benefit from Twitter or other micro-blog platforms. There is no definitive answer but Twitter allows me to 'take the pulse' to the vibrant eHealth/Health 1+n ecosystem to think, learn, and connect.

Great list! I think you follow me (@goodwillstacy) - I'm a patient advocate, so that's the view I tweet from. Twitter has been an amazing resource for meeting people & having conversations. Like Jen, I would be more than happy to pay for the service.
As for other people in health to follow, @jimtate is a really great guy, as well as @cwhogg. For patient advocates, I recommend @chronicbabe, @bydls and @diabetesmine.

    Mark -

    Thanks for compiling this list.

It's great to see so many tweets who connect various sectors of health and medicine in one place, twittering away.

The cross-collaboration (virtual watercooler for entire health stratosphere) is what makes Twitter a highly productive tool for me - it's like a mini-MBA or grad course.

Without doubt, it is *the* primary tool that has augmented my productivity in the past year of use.

It's important to note this isn't just about talk, however - it's also about action: Two initiatives at least have begun on Twitter: Medical Education Evolution (interactions with @Berci and @tedeytan) and Tech Geek Brunch DC (with @tedeytan, @anitasamarth, @ekivemark and other HealthCampDC goers).

I'd pay, in fact, to have access if it comes down to Twitter needing a real-world revenue model.

Where else can you debate things like consumer-centric care and genetics theorems with a worldwide community of interest? And then arrange offline meetups to continue the conversations in the 'real' world?

Looking forward to tweeting more with you.

    Mark:

Thanks for including me (@knightsicre) and uncovering a few tweeple I do not follow. I look forward to learning from them.

What do you think is the best way to "meet" new people who might be of interest? I search for common terms, and look at other tweets @s to interesting discussions.

    Best,
    Alex

Thanks for including me in your list... now I'll have to really focus on writing smarter Tweets... no more messaging about my cat. The pressure is on.
  • Sarah Stewart · 1 year ago
I mostly follow educators as opposed to people in health. And I know only one midwife in Twitter, so I will follow some of the people you mention here to get an entree into the Twitter health world. cheers
  • Enda Madden · 1 year ago
Thanks for including me in your list. Twitter is an amazing tool and I've meet so many people in the Healthcare world through it so thanks for all the other names on the list to connect to.

    Enda

Thanks for the inclusion. I've been on twitter for about a month and a half. It took me trying it out for a few weeks to really see the utility. I use IM w/ a lot of remote colleagues - and twitter can help expand that "resource network".

Firstly, I want to say thank you for all of the replies to this post, the new followers (hello!) and to all the thoughtful replies on Twitter. It's amazing what the power of a social network can do at getting a message across. To follow up on a point made by Jen (@jenmccabegorman) this is not just about talk, but also action. We must all strive to push our thoughts and ideas forward and this is something we can (and should) share together.

Take some time to reflect on today, I know I have, and look to tomorrow and think about what positive changes you hope to achieve.

    This is just the beginning.

    Mark,

I am privileged to be included on you list. THANK YOU. Just like Dr. Val, the pressure is on and will ensure to live up to the reputation.

Although, a relatively new tweet (a month and a half). Twitter has already begun to influence my life and collaboration style. Seconding Jens comment, it truly is a live course in whatever discipline you choose.

I look forward to meeting many of you.

    Happy Tweeting

    Cisco

Thanks Mark. From this distant place (New Zealand), the world becomes so much smaller with access to instant communication of great ideas and recommendations from the Tweeple on your list.

Thanks for the two great recent posts. I'm a fan of Porter, wondering how to apply some of his strategy ideas with collaboration, and I was just wondering who I should follow on Twitter for Health 2.0 content as I'm a bit new to Twitter. Couldn't have been more timely! I look forward to making things happen.

    Cheers, Leo (twitterid: leonardkish)

Many great people are on here! I would suggest @Nedra and also humbly suggest myself as well @socialbttrfly as I currently work at a public health, social marketing firm outside Washington D.C.
  • Jose HC · 10 months ago
Thanks for the list Mark... I am now following every single one on this list. Let's see how it goes.

Love the list, but some context about why you think these are great resources would be helpful.
  • Carmen R. Gonzalez · 8 months ago
You must add @EdBennett who, as Director of Web Strategy at the University of Maryland's Medical System, has amassed and continues to share social media analytics, trends and insight across the medical field.

Another must add is @LeeAase, Manager for Syndications and Social Media at the Mayo Clinic . He is a tireless advocate and leader in the realm of social media use in the hospital setting. The Mayo Clinic, from its earliest explorations with social media on iTunes, YouTube, and Twitter, has been a pioneer for the rest of the industry.

Carmen - thanks for the kind words, I appreciate your support. And thank you Mark for the great list, there are many folks who are new to me - always great to get a reference from someone I trust.
  • Lee Aase · 8 months ago
Thanks for your endorsement, Carmen. It's great to see that many of the folks you have listed are already among those I follow. Nice to have a specialized list like this, and appreciate Carmen's honorable mention.
